Skatoolaki.com was purchased in September 2004 to serve as my personal domain. Previously my main website was hosted at Geocities under the user name of vamp_lynx. The geocities.com/vamp_lynx site was created in June 2001 and ran until the creation of skatoolaki.com and the move to my own domain registered through GoDaddy in 2004.
Deciding on a domain name was a very momentous decision. I spent weeks going through my favorite user names before coming to a final decision. I wanted it to be one that I would never want to change - and one that was unique enough that it had not been over-used in the vastness of cyberspace. I finally decided upon the Greek word skatoulaki.
Though I am usually against misspelling words to get a new, funky, and unique version, I found that skatoulaki was used, in small amounts, elsewhere on the web. To make it unparalled - and make spelling it much easier (an important aspect of a domain name) - I changed the spelling to skatoolaki. The result has been that I am the only skatoolaki on the web; and all searches for this name come back to my own work.
To ensure that I was the keeper of all things skatou- and skatoolakish, I purchased both skatoulaki.com and skatoolaki.com - domain names I retain until this day.
I made the announcement on my blog, formerly named anima, on Thursday, September 4, 2004 and haven't looked back.
And if you're still wondering, skatoulaki, in Greek, means "little shithead"; the name was found in my treasured The Complete Book of Magical Names by Phoenix McFarland.
I Live Elsewhere On The Web
shanna.ws is the only other domain name that points here; I was eager to snatch up one of the very few remaining TLD's with my first name.
Skatoolaki.com is my personal and main website, holding all of my thoughts, information, and musings - it has been online, in many forms, since 2001. My other personal sites are:

I Heart Domain Names
My original reticence in purchasing a domain name flew out the window with my realization that I could purchase them anonymously; hiding all of my personal contact information from prying eyes. This was essential - as in being vocally opinionated and open about my feelings I have garnered my fair share of stalkers, trolls, and death threats.
I presently own over 30 personal domain names, and have owned more since 2004. Some of my work and websites stand on their own, and have their own domain names - others I simply create as extensions of skatoolaki.com.

Technical Hullabaloo
The layout was designed and implemented in Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004, with some parts being hand-coded in Crimson Editor.
This site is XHTML Transitional compliant and should be viewable in all browsers and at all resolutions, though - as an i.t. tech - I highly recommend you do your web browsing with anything but Internet Explorer. Mozilla Firefox and Opera are two I would suggest going with.
Graphics were created or manipulated using Adobe Photoshop 7.0. The entire shebang - domain names and servers - are hosted at GoDaddy.com.
